Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Discrete and Repetitive Manufacturing?
Discrete manufacturing is used for product-by-product production (e.g., cars, machines). Repetitive manufacturing is for mass production of similar products on a line (e.g., consumer goods), using Rem. Profiles and Rate Routings.
What is Backflushing in SAP PP?
Backflushing is the automatic Goods Issue of components to Production Order at the time of Confirmation. It saves manual entry time by calculating material usage based on BOM.
What is MPS vs. MRP?
MPS (Master Production Scheduling) is high-level planning for critical finished goods. MRP (Material Requirements Planning) calculates requirements for all components and assemblies based on MPS and demand.
Do I need production floor experience to learn SAP PP?
While not mandatory, having a background in manufacturing or mechanical engineering helps in understanding routing and work centers concepts faster.
How is Capacity Planning handled?
Capacity Planning checks available capacity at Work Centers against required load (from routing). We teach both Rough Cut (CR01) and Detailed Planning (CR02) to level the load.
